The Great Oak Table at Pigwiggen Wood

Following a successful crowdfunding campaign, the Great Oak Table, the largest table in the world made from a single English Oak tree, is now complete. As a Community Resource, we welcome enquiries from local groups, clubs and schools about its use. If you’d like to visit Pigwiggen Wood, for open days, feasts or as a volunteer working in the Wood, please read on.

Summer Open Days 2025

Join us in Pigwiggen Wood this summer for gentle days to connect with nature and each other. Enjoy a seat at the Great Oak Table. Bring a picnic, a book, art materials, board games, and most of all – an open heart.

  • Saturday 7th June
  • Saturday 5th July
  • Saturday 2nd August
  • Saturday 6th September

12 noon – 5.00pm on the first Saturday of the month. The wood is closed at all other times.

PLEASE let us know if you’re coming so we can manage numbers and, most importantly, bake enough cake! Do check back here if the weather is looking unpredictable for an event you’re attending!

Be first to hear about our Events!

JOIN OUR MAILING LIST

We’d love to see you at one of our events. We offer free open days if you’d like to come along and just chill. Because of the unpredictability of British weather, we sometimes arrange feasts at short notice. If you’d like to be notified of these, please join our mailing list.

We’re fortunate to have a lovely group of people who enjoy helping us in Pigwiggen Wood. They tell us how much they enjoy working on the land, socialising with other like-minded people and being outside in the lovely woodlands. There’s always tea, biscuits and usually homemade cake and food for the longer days. If you’d like to join us, please let us know by ticking your interests on this  this form. If you’ve already signed up, but would like to amend your details or interests, please just send the form again.

We promise that we will only use your details to contact you about the wood, that you can remove your name at any time, and that we will NEVER, EVER share your information.

Visiting Pigwiggen Wood & The Great Oak Table

  • There is no parking at the wood – or in the lanes nearby; please walk or cycle. If you have mobility issues, please get in touch, and we’ll do our best to help.
  • Within the woodland, please stick to the paths and the area around the table to protect the flora and fauna in other areas
  • Strictly No Smoking or disposable barbecues anywhere in the wood because of the risk of fire
  • We love sociable dogs, and they’re very welcome, but please be sensitive to any young visitors who are nervous around them, and pick up any doggy deposits.
  • Eccentric/fancy dress always welcomed!

Pigwiggen Wood is a small, family-owned private woodland 10–15 minutes walk from Chagford.

We run occasionally open days and special events, but the wood is otherwise CLOSED to visitors to preserve its quiet magic, to protect the trees and to support all the other living beings for whom it is home.
